The Co-Write is back this week with some tidbits we thought you might find interesting.  Production on a  new record began last week.  A Co-Write alum is up for the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.  The Music Modernization Act survived a 12th hour assault from SESAC and their parent company Blackstone Group.  Texas Live opened in Arlington, and Bobby was there to check it out.  Also, some great new music has been released these last couple of weeks, and the boys hit on the newest effort from William Clark Green.

A few weeks ago, Donovan had the idea of sitting down and going over some of the great Texas music artists whom decided to chase a different path in life.  There have been many over the years.  It only made sense to bring along the encyclopedia of Texas music, Brad Beheler, for the ride.  This week on the podcast, we bring you part 1 of that conversation.  The boys discuss some of their favorite artists from the early days of the scene.  Brad also gives a review of the Eagles and Chris Stapleton concert the night before.

This week on the podcast Bobby and Donovan remember the greatness that was Anthony Bourdain.  They discuss the sincere outpouring of grief that seemed to grip so many across the country.  Bobby recommends a new book, "God Bless Texas - An Intimate Journey Through the Lone Star State".  The director of the Texas Music Office drops in for a discussion on his office, what he sees for the future of the Texas music scene, and how he's helping cities across the state view their music industries as the economic drivers they can be & he cleans up some of the mess that was our discussion on Music Modernization Act.

The Co-Write boys are back this week and flying solo. Topics discussed include the new Music Modernization Act, that has been fast tracked through the US Congress, and aims to reshape the way royalties are paid to artists, producers & writers.  The boys also discuss three albums that have dropped recently from Kacey Musgraves, Red Shahan, and a very confusing greatest hits style of record from Pat Green.  Donovan brings a couple of topical quick hitters before we send you back out into the wilderness.

This week on The Co-Write, we sit down with the great Ben Danaher.  Ben is one of the strongest songwriters going right now, and his new project, "Still Feel Lucky", out September 7th, will surely separate him from the field.  Growing up in Texas, Ben was always around music.  His dad played in bands, and his older brother Brett has been a stalwart in the Pat Green band since Pat's earliest days burning through the Texas asphalt.  Ben began his career like many others, assembling a band and touring heavily before realizing there was something more for him that being another bar band playing whatever college town had an opening.  Since moving to Nashville, Ben has continued to refine his songwriting voice in a truly remarkable way.  You can pre-order Ben's newest album now.  Just go to your favorite music purchasing platform and do the thing.  For now, enjoy this conversation!

On this episode of The Co-Write, Bobby and Donovan discuss their football hangover as the end of the NFL season came and went.  They give a review of Justin Timberlake's halftime performance, as well as some of their favorites over the years.  Donovan discusses the lows and highs of the Grammy Awards, and some controversy or the nomination process.  Bobby reviews a news article claiming that Apple Music is set to surpass Spotify in paid subscriptions this summer, as well as what the looming disappearance of iTunes means for independent music. "Dancehall Dreamin'", a tribute album to Pat Green, was announced this week.  The boys review the track listening, and if it still moves the needle for the old school Texas music fan.

For the better part of a decade and a half, Brandon Rhyder has been one of Texas Music's true workhorses.  After two early releases, "Because She Loves Me" 2001 & "Behind the Pine Curtain" 2003, Brandon really hit his stride with the release of the critically acclaimed, "Conviction" in 2006.  You would be hard pressed to find another album, from any scene, that can go song for song with, "Conviction", and it set Brandon on a collision course with success and all that comes with it.  The albums that followed, "Every Night" 2008, "Head Above Water" 2010, "That's Just Me" 2013 & his latest release, 2017's self-titled effort, "Brandon Rhyder", have solidified Brandon as one our great songwriter's.

On this episode of The Co-Write, Brandon sits down to talk about his early life behind the pine curtain, his struggle in those early days, the chain of events set off by the release of "Conviction", and his relentless quest for the great song.

For many people, 2017 was a real punch in the gut.  We here at The Co-Write hope that we brought some sort of relief from the exhausting news cycle that whirls around us constantly.  Our goal in 2018 is nothing short of the same.  We look forward to bringing you more, expansive interviews with the artists you love, but plan to do more podcast featuring your loyal hosts giving their opinions on a wide range of topics that pop up throughout the year.

We will kick things off in 2018 with a trip to Red River, New Mexico for the Red River Songwriter's Festival, and look forward to bringing you daily podcasts from the festival, including interviews with the artists performing there.

We are excited to announce a new partnership with our friends at TX Whiskey and Firestone Roberts Distilling.  TX Whiskey is one of the fastest growing whiskey brands in the United States.  Their proprietary blend offers a unique whiskey experience that is both smooth and flavorful.  Their recently released TX Bourbon is one of the finest new bourbons I have had the pleasure of enjoying, and I highly recommend you give it a shot (or two) as well. Their all new Whiskey Ranch is the largest whiskey distillery west of the Mississippi, and sits on the 112 acres that was once Glen Gardens Country Club, in Fort Worth.  The facilities are beautiful, and great for hosting private events.  Check out www.frdistilling.com for more information, and be sure to go check out Whiskey Ranch in the near future!
